Legarda to visit Suu Kyi in Myanmar today

MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Loren Legarda is visiting Aung San Suu Kyi in her home in Myanmar today.
Legarda said she will be accompanied by her two sons. The visit was facilitated by her close friend, East Timor President Jose Ramos Horta.
“It’s a personal visit, and we can share our views on democracy, especially the road to democracy of Burma,” she said during a working lunch in Makati last week.
Legarda said she hopes that she can learn from Suu Kyi who remained strong-willed in her fight for democracy even during her incarceration of two decades.
She said the Burmese democracy icon showed the importance of women leaders in the protection of people’s rights, and the preservation of democracy.
