Hosted by: Trina Lacey/East Side Middle School Amnesty International ChapterThis event will be a simple, awareness raising vigil to inform as many people as possible of the political situation in Burma, and of Aung Sun Suu Kyi's plight. It is being held on the date of the Burmese elections, from which Suu Kyi's party has been banned. In addition, Suu Kyi is scheduled to be released from her detention one week later on November 13th; however given past information, this is unlikely to happen. Participants will hold signs and posters with the message, "I stand with Aung Sun Suu Kyi." We will distribute information to people who show an interest, informing them of the issue and how to take action. We are hoping for large numbers to make a large impact. Student groups are highly encouraged to attend.
